Pound Pete Shines as Salford Suffer late Shark Attack
Salford Spartans - 8
Stockport Sharks - 10

Salford were gifted a four game start in their latest game against the Sharks, with Stockport turning up over an hour late, Salford could have claimed six games, but it was decided that only four would be claimed, a good show of sportsmanship, which to be honest wasn't appreciated by players from Stockport.
The starting atmosphere wasn't the best to say the least, with players seemingly feeling hard-done-to by the frame losses, at half time though the score was 6-3 to Salford.
With the second half under-way, both Salford Ladies, Lynda (Wall) and Helen (Roughely) were extremely unlucky not to have won both their game, both were black ball games, and both were brought back with each playing a numerous ball clear up to be on the black, Lyn left herself with a tough long double, which only rattled by a fraction and Helen missed by a slight angle to put her game to game.
With two further defeats and Stockport in the lead for the first time in the game at 7-6, up steps Pound Pete (Wall), playing a skillful player, but with a flair of arrogance Pete played with his usual tone of witty what-evers and attacking play to put the best down.
After being asked by his opponent if the corner bag was forgiving for the black shot, and Petes reply of "don't know mate, not potted one in there today', the black was missed and in under a minute five yellows had been shown the pockets and the black was sunk, Pete had won. Cushty.......

Following Pete's game Nic McCreight steps into the fray and with a blend of shaking hands and some form of strange luck plucked from no-where he was given two-shots with three balls left on the table, and that was that.
Now we're back in front, 8-7 to Salford, and Harold Marchington take to his game, Harold playing with his usual swagger had the game by the neck, given one shot, clearing six balls, then the seventh ball decided it was going to sit on the lip of the pocket and stay firm, 8-8.
With Rob being unlucky with the white and loosing his game, both captains stepped up, with Salford looking for the draw and Stockport looking for the win, all was to play for.
A 25 minute frame it was a truly good game, chess on a pool table almost.
With Wil (Bell) on the black, which the Stockport Captain thought he had covered, the black was dispatched into the pocket and Salford had the draw, or so we thought, until the white came round the table and from some unknown angle hit the far side of a yellow past the center back, and somehow knocked it into the pocket.
We had lost, but only by the tightest of margins, and a good game was had.
Spartans are truly going to be the team to watch very soon.........

Another USSU season over, another one to start planning..!

Looking back on last season, I can only feel it was a success, especially considering the changes which were put in place.
With the advent of two separate leagues feeding a masters league and holding a leg of the Knockout Cup each, a lot was planned.
There were a few teething problems, mainly around attendance and subs but these are to be discussed by the council.

The council will re-convene soon and sit to discuss new arrangements for next year, there will be a number of changes, but all in the discipline of the league and its players.

If anyone has any changes they wish to submit or any ideas to put forward for next year, please email info@salfordpool.co.uk

Cheers
Wil
